Grow Your Business with QR Codes
Posted: September 28th 2011 in General
If you haven’t noticed yet, many of today’s advertisements are beginning to feature a small, barcode like graphic called quick response, or QR, codes. Originally designed in Japan, QR codes are a two-dimensional, matrix barcode that require special readers (which you can download for free in your smartphone app store) which decode them and link to a web page that shares additional data. QR Codes are being used among a variety of businesses and industries due to their ease of use, versatility and effectiveness.
Some of the benefits of QR Codes include:
- Convenience - QR Codes can be read anytime and anywhere with any mobile phone camera and a free reader app. Once scanned a mobile phone will then present the information contained in the codes in a website format.
- Versatility – The codes can be used in a number of ways, including directing consumers to websites, providing coupons, giving directions, displaying contact information and more.
- Speed – As the “Q” in its name implies, QR Codes give consumers immediate access to additional information, eliminating the need to wait until they have access to a computer to browse websites for information about your business, products or services.
- Eco-friendly – QR Codes reduce the need for you and your customers to print paper coupons; smartphone access allows the discount information to be scanned directly at checkout.
Hugely Important Note: If you are using a QR Code to drive people to a specific web page make sure the content is mobile-ready. While at a recent conference, the vast majority of the companies with a featured QR Code in the program did not have a mobile-friendly site for visitors. So, just remember that if you invite people to a web page using a QR Code, they should actually be able to view it properly from their smartphone.
QR Codes can be used for a variety of businesses and industries and although they are still considered to be a new technology they are already being incorporated into many marketing plans. So, don’t let this upcoming trend sneak up on you. JigSaw can help you incorporate QR Codes into your marketing plan so that you’re creatively standing out among your competitors.
